A Project Team of CASS Institute of International Law Attends the Annual Conference on EU Law in Chongqing Municipality


On November 3-5, 2018, the innovation team “Studies on the Construction of a Community with Shared Future for Mankind and Promotion of International Law Safeguards for the Reform of the Global Governance System”, led by Professor Jiang Xiaohong, the Chief Researcher of the Project, attended the Twelfth Annual Conference of the EU Law Research Committee of the Chinese Association of European Studies. Other members of the project team included Research Follow Zhu Xiaoqing, Associate Research Fellow Hao Luyi, Associate Research Fellow Li Zhan, Associate Research Fellow Dai Ruijun, Assistant Research Fellow Zhang Weihua, and Post-Doctoral Researcher Ma Jinxin.

The conference was sponsored by the Chinese Association of European Studies and organized by Southwest University of Political Science and Law. It took “New Challenges and the Development of European Law” as its theme and was attended by about 50 experts and scholars from CASS, Wuhan University, East China University of Political Science and Law, and Sichuan University. At the conference, the participants gave keynote speeches and carried out group discussions on such topics as hot and difficult issues of European law, the latest development in EU trade and investment laws, the latest development in EU public law, and legal issues relating to immigration and the fight against terrorism in Europe. Professor Jiang Xiaohong and Professor Hao Luyi each gave a keynote speech on “the Trend of Development of EU Foreign Trade Policy and China’s Countermeasures Thereof” and “EU Immigration Crisis: Causes and Challenges”, respectively, and served as commentators at their respective group discussions.

 

After the conference, the Project Team visited the First Intermediate People’s Court of Chongqing Municipality and held a colloquium with the judges of the court on such topics as hot legal issues in EU, the application of international treaties by Chinese courts, and the role played by courts in the construction of the “Belt and Road” and free trade zones.
