Professor Qi Jianjian Gives Lecture at Coimbra University, Portugal


On November 25, 2019, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Professor Qi Jianjian, an associate research fellow at the Institute of Law of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), visited the University of Coimbra in Portugal and gave a lecture at the Faculty of Law of the University (FDUC). The lecture, titled “China’s Gender Mainstreaming on the Road to the Rule of Law: An Example from Systematic Anti-Domestic Violence Laws”, was presided over by Professor Rui de Figueiredo Marcos, Dean of FDUC and Director of the Sino-Lusophone Academy of the University of Coimbra. Professor Qi’s lecture was organized under a program developed by the CASS-UC Centre of China Studies, in collaboration with ASL-UC.

In the lecture, Professor Qi gave an introduction to the active role played by middle and senior leadership in the development of the anti-domestic violence law system in China and the main components of the system, including the prevention mechanism, the mechanism for the punishment of perpetrators, and the mechanism for the protection of victims. She also discussed in detail the progresses China has made in the improvement of the system in such aspects as compulsory reporting obligation, shelter, caution letter, restraining order, and crime prevention and control.
