The Academic Seminar "The Development of the Law of the Sea in an Age of Great Changes: Challenges and Prospects", was held at CASS Institute of International Lawon October 16, 2021. This seminar,sponsored by CASS Institute of International Law and organized by CASS Center for the Law of the Sea Studies, aimedat exploring the new problems and new characteristics of as well as the new challenges faced by the development of the law of the sea against the background of great changes in the word unprecedented in a century.Mr. Wang Zonglai, deputy director of the Bureau of Maritime Rights of theForeign Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee, and Professor Chen Guoping, secretary of Joint Party Committee of CASS Institute of Law and CASS Institute of International Law, each delivered speech at the opening ceremony of the seminar, presided over by Professor Liu Huawen, deputy director of and a research fellow atCASS Institute of International Law.The seminar was divided into four sessions, in which the participants discussed various issues relating tosuch topics as basic theories and methods of the law of the sea, marine safety, environmental protection, marine scientific research, resource development, and polar affairs.
