The Academic Seminar on the Amendment to the Law on the Protection of Women's Rights and Interests" Successfully Held in Beijing

The Academic Seminar on Amending the Law on the Protection of Women's Rights and Interests, sponsored by the Social Law Department and the Center for Gender and Law Studiesof CASS Law Institute, and the Editorial Board of the Journal of Chinese Women’s Studies of Women's Studies Institute of China of All-China Women’s Federation, was held in the conference room of CASS Law Institute on July 12, 2021. The seminar took a combined online and offline form and was attended by over 40 experts and scholars from the Social Development Affairs Committeeand the Constitution and Law Committeeof the National People’s Congress, All-China Women’s Federation, CASS Law Institute,CASS Institute of International Law, CASS Institute of Sociology, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, China University of Political Science and Law, University of International Business and Economics, China Women’s University, Wuhan University, Hunan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Liaoning Normal University, Northwest University of Political Science and Law, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Beijing Zhilin Law Firm.

 

 

The seminar was divided into four sessions: "Definition of Discrimination", "Labor and Social Security Rights", "Property Rights and Interests" and "Personal Rights". At the end of the seminar, the participants reached a consensus thatChinese scholars should attach importance to the research on the Sinicization and modernization of Marxist women's theory, and try to combine theory and practice, history and reality, national conditions and international principles, and law revision and law enforcement, administration of justice, and popularization of law. The Center for Gender and Law Studies of CASS Law Institute would summarizethe suggestions on the amendment of the law put forward by the participants of the seminar into a written report and submitting it to the relevant government departments.
