The deputy director of CASS Law Institute, Professor Li Honglei, held a meeting with a delegation of the British Embassy in Beijing, headed by Mr. Alastair Arnold, the political counselor of Embassy, on January 26, 2021.

During the meeting, the hosts and guests exchanged opinions on the plan to build the rule of law in China (2020-2025), issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Professor Li pointed out that “building a socialist system of the rule of law with Chinese characteristics” is the general objective and the key link in this Plan. In the construction of the rule of law, China should attach importance to legal studies, promote the exchange with foreign countries, and strengthen the publicity of the rule of law. Mr. Alastair pointed out that China has made huge achievements in the construction of the rule of law in recent years and that the cooperation between China and UK in the field of the rule of law is based on solid ground. He expressed the hope that, in the future, the British Embassy and CASS Law Institute will work together to promote the development of the rule of law in the two countries.

Next, Professor Xu Hui, the head of the Procedure Law Department of CASS Law Institute, Professor Liu Xiaomei, head of the Research Coordination and International Cooperation Department of CASS Institute of International Law, Associate Professor Ma Ke at CASS Institute of Law, and Assistant Professor Sun Nanxiang at the CASS Institute of International Law, give introductions to and exchanged opinions with members of the delegation on such issues as the improvement of the Chinese civil and criminal litigation systems, the establishment of foreign related legal affairs system in China, and the system of application of foreign laws within the Chinese jurisdiction. Also attending the meeting were Ms. Shen Qian, a programs official at the Research Coordination and International Cooperation Department of CASS Institute of Law and Ms. Zhao Yuting, a programs official at the European Division of CASS Bureau of International Cooperation.
