Director Mo Jihong of CASS Law Institute met with Bob Easton, First Secretary of the Political Affairs Office of the British Embassy in China and his colleagues


 

 

On the morning of November 29, 2021, Professor Mo Jihong, Director of the Institute of Law of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, met with Mr. Bob Easton, First Secretary of the Government Affairs Office of the British Embassy in China and some of his colleagues from the Embassy.

At the meeting, Director Mo first introduced the development history of and the main tasks undertaken by Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), pointing out that CASS is an important "think tank" of the CPC and the Chinese government, the highest palace of philosophical and social science researches in the country, and a strong position of Marxism. In recent years, CAS has attached more importance to the cultivation of talents and established the University of CASS in May 2017. Then, Director Mo gave the guests brief introductions to CASS Institute of Law and CASS Institute of International Law, as well as the statuses and roles of the two institutes in the construction of the rule of law, especially in the legislative work, in China.

 

 

 

During the meeting, the hosts and guests exchanged views on the important thesis of "Practicing the people-centered development thinking and developing the whole-process people's democracy" put forward by Party General Secretary Xi Jinping in his speech at the conference held in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

Mr. Easton gave a positive evaluation of the role played by CASS Institute of Law and CASS Institute of International Law in the construction of the rule of law in China. He said that, in recent years, China has made great achievements in the construction of the rule of law, and China-UK cooperation in the field of the rule of law has a solid foundation, and he hoped that, in the future, the British Embassy would be able to cooperate with the two institutes in promoting the development of the cause of the rule of law in both China and UK.

Also attending the meeting were Ms. Nupur Takwale, a first secretary at the Administrative Office of the British Embassy in China, Mr. Che Weichang, Head of Bilateral Rule of Law Cooperation of the Political Affairs Office of the British Embassy, Professor. Li Zhong, Head of the Department of the Rule of Law Strategy of CASS Institute of Law and CASS Institute of International Law, Professor Liu Xiaomei, Head of the Department of Research Coordination and International Cooperation of CASS Institute of International Law, and Ms. Shen Qian, a programs officer at the Department of Research Coordination and International Cooperation of CASS Institute of Law.
