The fourth lecture of the Innovation Forum of CASS Institute of Law and CASS Institute of International Law in 2022 was held on October 25, 2022. The lecture, entitled "International Labor Standards: New Developments in Theory and Practice", was given by Professor Li Xixia, an associate research fellow at the Institute of International Law, and attended by about 30 researchers from the two institutes.
In the lecture, Professor Li Xixia first introduced three basic issues of international labor standards. Then, she focused on the establishment and the significance of basic labor standards. Finally, she briefly introduced a latest development trend of labor standards in FTA, that is, USMCA has taken the lead in introducing the "labor value content" clause in the Rules of Origin of Automobiles, marking the shift of its focus from global industrial chain to regional industrial chain, local production, local employment and wage growth. The agreement has strengthened the implementation of labor standards through rules of origin, which is a breakthrough development, indicating that a linkage has been established between labor standards issues and other issues in FTA.
After the lecture, the participants made comments and carried out heated discussions on various issues touched upon in the lecture.
