The Seminar on Legal Regulation of the Artificial Intelligence Held in Beijing


The Seminar on Legal Regulation of the Artificial Intelligence, sponsored by CASS Institute of Law, was held in Beijing on June 13, 2023. Held in the form of online conference, the seminar was attended by over 20 experts and scholars from CASS Institute of Law, CASS Institute of International Law, the Law School of University of Ottawa, and University of Toulouse Capitole.

 

 

Professor Xie Zengyi, Deputy Director of Institute of Law, CASS, and Professor Céline Castets Renard, University Research Chair on Accountable Artificial Intelligence in a Global Context, Centre for Law, Technology and Society, University of Ottawa, made opening remarks at the beginning of the seminar.

The seminar was divided into two sessions. In the first session, Associate Professor Jessica Eynard from University of Toulouse Capitole, Professor Feng Jue, Deputy Editor-in-chief of Chinese Journal of Law, CASS Institute of Law, and Professor Céline Castets Renard from University of Ottawa, gave presentations on “Online Age Verification: AI as a Solution?”, “New Developments in China's Intelligent Connected Vehicles Road Testing and Application Management Specifications” and “AI Law and Governance in Canada (Bill C-27)” respectively. In the second session, Associate Professor Zhou Hui, Deputy Director of Department of Cyber and Information Law, CASS Institute of Law, and Dr. Fu Hongyu, Deputy Director of the Alibaba Research Center on Data Economy, gave presentations on “Legal Governance of Algorithms in China” and “the Theory and Practices of Agile Governance of Artificial Intelligence”, respectively. After the presentations, the participants carried out discussions on various issues covered by the presentations.

Associate Professor Sun Nanxiang, Deputy Director of Department of Research Coordination and International Cooperation, CASS Institute of International Law, and Assistant Professor Shen Qian from CASS Institute of International Law, served as moderators at the first and second sessions of the seminar, respectively.
