A delegation of CASS Institute of Law carries out academic exchanges in Germany


A six-member delegation of CASS Institute of Law, headed by Professor Xie Zengyi, deputy director of the Institute, carried out academic exchanges in Germany from July 24 to 29, 2023. Other members of the delegation included Professor Xie Hongfei, head of the Civil Law Department of the Institute, Professor Xue Ninglan, head of the Social Law Department of the Institute, Professor Zhu Guangxin, deputy head of the Civil Law Department of the Institute, and Associate Professor Dou Haiyang and Assistant Professor Cai Rui, two young researchers at the Civil Law Department of the Institute.  

 

 

On July 25th, the delegation attended the Seminar on Judicial Interpretation and Implementation of the Chinese Civil Code, sponsored by Max Planck Institute for Comparative and Private International Law. At the seminar, co-chaired by Professor Knut Benjamin Pißler and Professor Xie Zengyi, the participants gave presentations and carried out discussions on various issues related to the books on the general provisions, property law, tort liability law, contract law and marriage and family law of the Chinese Civil Code. 

 

 

On the morning of July 26th, the delegation held a meeting with Professor Holger Fleischer, executive director of Max Planck Institute for Comparative and Private International Law, on the future cooperation between the two institutes. On the afternoon of July 26th, the delegation visited the library of the Max Planck Institute. The person in charge of the library introduced the collection of the library and the acquisition and use of book resources by the library. The hosts and guests also exchanged views on the functions of and researches carried out by law libraries.

 

 

 

On the morning of July 28th, the delegation visited the Institute of Labor Relations and Labor Law of the Law School of Munich University and exchanged views with Professor Richard Giesen, director of the Institute, on the future cooperation between the two institutes. The host and guest also exchanged views on the new development of labor law, the Chinese Civil Code, corporate governance and other current hot issues. 

 

 

On the afternoon of July 28th, the delegation visited the Law School of Munich University, and held a discussion with Professor Beate Gsell, dean of the Law School, Professor Christian Walter, the vice dean of the Law School in charge of international exchange, and Professor Giesen. 

 

 

During this visit, members of the delegation carried out extensive and in-depth exchanges with their German colleagues on the implementation of the Civil Code and the development of labor law and social security law in China and further deepened the cooperative relationship between CASS Institute of Law and relevant academic and research institutions in Germany, including Max Planck Institute for Comparative and Private International Law and Munich University. The visit has achieved fruitful results, which will play a positive role in promoting Sino-German legal exchanges.
