Professor Paul Gewirtz, director of Paul Tsai China Center of Yale University, and Professor Susan A. Thornton, a senior research fellow at the Center, visited CASS Institute of Law and CASS Institute of International Law in Beijing on January 19, 2024. During the visit, they held a meeting with Professor Mo Jihong, director of CASS Institute of Law, Professor Xie Zengyi, deputy director of CASS Institute of Law, Ms. Ding Sai, deputy director of CASS Institute of International Law, and some other scholars of the two institutes, in which the hosts and guests exchanged opinions on the future cooperation between Paul Tsai China Center and the two CASS institutes and on the new developments of the rule of law in China.

At the meeting, Professor Liu Renwen, head of the Criminal Law Department of CASS Institute of Law, introduced the progress made by China in the field of criminal law in recent years, including the research on the codification of the criminal law, the fight against corruption and the strengthening of criminal law compliance by enterprises. Professor Liu Xiaomei, head of the Research Coordination and International Cooperation Department of CASS Institute of International Law, introduced the main progress made by China in the fields of legislation and the construction of a law-based government in recent years. Associate Professor Zhou Hui, deputy head of the Cyber and Information Law Department of CASS Institute of Law, introduced the new progress made by China in artificial intelligence regulation and the research results of CASS Institute of Law in this field. Associate Professor Sun Nanxiang, deputy head of the Research Coordination and International Cooperation Department of CASS Institute of International Law, introduced the main views of Chinese scholars on the role of international law in global governance and international order as well as the coordinated development of domestic rule of law and foreign-related rule of law in China.

Also attending the meeting were Mr. Zhang Jingui, head of the Research Coordination and International Cooperation Department of CASS Institute of Law, and Dr. Shen Qian, an assistant research fellow at the Editorial Department of Chinese Review of International Law of CASS Institute of International Law.
