A delegation of the Australian Embassy in China visits CASS Institute of Law and CASS Institute of International Law


A delegation of the Australian Embassy in China, headed by Mr. Simon Farbenbloom, Minister-Counsellor (Economic) at the Embassy, visited CASS Institute of Law and CASS Institute of International Law on April 24, 2024. During the visit, the delegation held a meeting with Professor Mo Jihong, Director of CASS Institute of Law, and exchanged views with some researchers of the two CASS institutes on the regulatory environment of artificial intelligence and the current situation of cooperation between the Embassy and the two CASS institutes.

 

 

During the meeting, Professor Mo Jihong welcomed the guests from the Embassy. He introduced the basic situation of the two CASS institutes, pointing out that the two institutes attach great importance to international academic exchanges and cooperation. Mr. Farbenbloom thanked the two institutes for their warm reception and expressed the wish to further enhance mutual understanding and promote academic exchanges between the Embassy and the two CASS institutes. During the exchange, Professor Zhi Zhenfeng, head librarian of CASS Law Library, Professor Yang Yanchao, a research fellow at the Intellectual Property Law Department of CASS Institute of Law, and Associate Professor Zhou Hui, deputy head of the Cyber and Information Law Department of CASS Institute, each gave a presentation, introducing China's experience in the regulation of artificial intelligence, key points and difficulties of AI regulation, artificial intelligence legislation and the Model Law on Artificial Intelligence in China. Both the hosts and guests agreed that artificial intelligence, which plays an important role in the development of today's society, needs to be regulated. They looked forward to more academic exchange activities between the Embassy and the two CASS institutes in the field of the regulation of artificial intelligence.

 

 

 

Also attending the meeting were Ms. Jessica Brown, a counsellor at the Industrial Science Resources Section of the Embassy, Mr. Anthony Skalkos, a second secretary at the Economic Section of the Embassy, Ms. Kieran Stenson, a second secretary at the Political Section of the Embassy, Ms. Liao Simin, a translator and researcher at the Research and Visit Section of the Embassy, Dr. Liu Canhua and Dr. Xu Jiujiu, two assistant research fellows at the Cyber and Information Law Department of CASS Institute of Law, Mr. Zhang Jingui, head of the Research Coordination and International Cooperation Department of CASS Institute of Law, and Ms. Cui Jingchen, a project officer at the Research Coordination and International Cooperation Department of CASS Institute of Law.
