A delegation from the University of Ottawa in Canada, headed by Professor Jacques Frémont, president of the University, visited the Institute of Law and the Institute of International Law of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences on the afternoon of October 10, 2024. Other members of the delegation included Professor Marie-Eve Sylvestre, dean of the Law School (Civil Law), Professor Kristen Boon, dean of the Law School (Common Law), Professor Céline Castets-Renard at the Law School, and Professor Jiao Jie, a senior consultant of the Law School. During the visit, the delegation held a meeting with Professor Xie Zengyi, deputy director of CASS Institute of Law, and some other researchers of the Institute.
At the meeting, Professor Xie Zengyi extended his warm welcome to Professor Jacques Frémont and his colleagues and gave them a brief introduce to CASS Institute of Law and CASS Institute of International Law, pointing out that the two institutes attach great importance to international academic cooperation and exchanges, and express his wish that this meeting would strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two CASS institutes and the University of Ottawa, enhance mutual understanding, and promote academic mutual learning. Professor Jacques Frémont thanked the hosts for their warm reception, explained to them the purpose of this visit, and expressed his wish to carry out cooperation with the two institutes in academic exchanges. The hosts and guests reached a broad consensus on the framework of future cooperation.
Next, Professor Mary Sylvester, Professor Christon Boone and Professor Celine Leonard gave brief introductions to the Law School of Ottawa University and the international summer camp program of the Law School. Associate Professor Zhou Hui, deputy head of the Cyber and Information Law Department of CASS Institute of Law, and Assistant Professor Shen Qian, a research fellow at CASS Institute of International Law and an editor of the academic journal Chinese Review of International Law, introduced their respective main research fields and research priorities. The hosts and guests exchanged opinions on the possible themes and forms of their future cooperation.
Also attending the meeting were Mr. Zhang Jingui, head of the Research Coordination and International Cooperation Department of CASS Institute of Law, and Ms. Cui Jingchen, a program official of the Department.
