On June 11, 2021, Professor Li Qingming, a research fellow at CASS Institute of International Law, was interviewed by the CCTV program “Focus Report” on the recent adoption of Anti-foreign Sanctions Law of the People's Republic of China. In the interview, Professor Li pointed out that, for many years, the US Government has arbitrarily imposed so-called sanctions on other states in violation of the UN Charter, basic principles of international law and basic norms governing international relations. In fact, since 1989, the UN General Assembly has been demanding that the US cease such act of wanton interference in the internal affairs of other states. However, the US has persisted in its old ways and continued to threaten the sovereignty and core interests of other states. Each state has the right to uphold its own sovereignty, dignity and core interests and to make appropriate responses when they are violated. Therefore, the adoption of the Anti-Sanctions Law by China is a legitimate act compatible with international law.
