The 4th Maritime Rule of Law Roundtable “Maritime Arbitration in China: Current Situation, Opportunities and Challenges" successfully held online

The 4th Maritime Rule of LawRoundtable "Maritime Arbitration in China: Current Situation, Opportunities and Challenges" was held online on October 25, 2021. The roundtable wassponsored by the Institute of International Law of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences,organized by the Center for the Maritime Rule of Law Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and attended by experts and scholars from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Supreme People’s Court and some local maritime courts, a number of arbitration commissions, domestic and foreign universities and research institutions, as well as related companies and law firms. Itwas divided into four units: introduction of the current situation, judicial support and supervision, roundtable discussion, and concluding remarks.

Professor Liu Jingdong, a research fellow at the Institute of International Law of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, a special advisor of the Supreme People's Court, and a member of the Expert Committee on International Commerce of the Supreme People's Court, delivered a closing speech, in which he expressed his gratitude to the experts and scholars for their nearly 6 hours participation in the roundtable, and his appreciation to his colleagues of the Center for organizingthe roundtable to discuss current hotspots and major issues in the field of maritime law. He said that the participants of the roundtablewere all well-known maritime experts. The Supreme Court and local maritime courts have fully supported and participated in the roundtable. Some overseas scholars have also been attracted to roundtable. The results of the roundtable will definitely help promote the development of the theory and practice of maritime rule of law. China is a major shipping country, a major port country, a major shipbuilding country, and a major cargo trading country. All legal professionals should use their imagination and creativity to build China into an international maritime arbitration center and strive to create an international and domestic environment most conducive to maritime arbitration, and attract the world's best maritime legal experts to come to China for arbitration, thereby making an indelible contribution to the development of international arbitration.
