A delegation of CASS Institute of Law and CASS Institute of International Law headed by Professor Mo Jihong attends a roundtable on the theory and practice of "One country, Two systems" in Hong Kong


 

A delegation of CASS Institute of Law and CASS Institute of International Law headed by Professor Mo Jihong, director of CASS Institute of Law and a member of the Expert Working Group of the Chinese Institute of Hong Kong, carried out academic exchanges in Hong Kong on July 29, 2023. During the visit, the delegation attended the roundtable “The Theory and Practice of ‘One Country, Two Systems’”, sponsored by the Chinese Institute of Hong Kong, at the invitation of Mr. HuangPing, Executive Vice President of the Chinese Institute of Hong Kong, and held a discussion with local legal experts in Hong Kong.  

During the roundtable, presided over by Mr. HuangPing, members of the delegation carried out in-depth discussions from the perspective of constitutional law with Professor Song Xiaozhuang from the Hong Kong and Macao Basic Law Research Center of Shenzhen University and Mr. Zheng Guojie, a member of the Chinese Association of Hong Kong and Macao Studies and a member of the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, on a wide range of issues such as the characteristics of the legal system of special administrative regions, the problems encountered in the implementation of the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and their historical origins, the legal effect of the Sino-British Joint Declaration, the practice of National Security Law in Hong Kong, and the legal guarantee for realizing the peaceful reunification of the country and solving the problems left over from history. 

This roundtable was one of a series of roundtables on "Chinese Studies in Hong Kong", sponsored by Hong Kong Institute of Chinese Studies, which focuses on the academic topics of the theory and practice of "one country, two systems", and aims to build an academic platform for scholars in the Mainland and Hong Kong to exchange information and ideas and cooperate with each other in researches. Also attending the roundtable were Professor Liu Xiaomei, Head of the Research Coordination and International Cooperation Department of CASS Institute of International Law, Professor Li Xia, Deputy Head of the Constitutional and Administrative Law Department of CASS Institute of Law, Associate Professor Li Guangde and Assistant Professor Zhu Xuelei from CASS Institute of Law and Associate Professor Sun Nanxiang and Assistant Professor Ma Jinxing from CASS Institute of International Law.
