The Tenth Lecture of “Legal History Lecture Hall” of China Institute of Legal History




Wang Zhiqiang: Perspectives of Research on Traditional Chinese Law: From Judicial Trial to Social Governance  

 

 

The tenth lecture in the academic lecture series of "Legal History Lecture Hall" sponsored by China Institute of Legal History was held online on the evening of September 26, 2023. The lecture, entitled Perspectives of Research on Traditional Chinese Law: From Judicial Trial to Social Governance, was given by Professor Wang Zhiqiang from the Law School of Fudan University and presided over by Professor Xu Zhongming from the Law School of Sun Yat-sen University. Professor Qiu Pengsheng from School of Humanities of Shanghai Jiaotong University and Associate Professor Lai Junnan from the School of Law of Fudan University participated in the discussion with Professor Wang Zhiqiang during the lecture. More than 200 people, including experts, scholars, teachers and students from universities and research institutes all over the country, attended the lecture. 

In the lecture, Professor Wang Zhiqiang summarized the current situation of development of the science of legal history, analyzed the academic researches on traditional Chinese law and existing problems in the researches from the perspective of judicial practice, discussed the characteristics of western legal tradition, which has long been regarded as the main reference system by academic circles, from the perspectives of the forms and elements of law, and explored ways of finding more dialogue platforms and common discourse bases for the research on traditional Chinese law from the perspective of social governance.
