The 12th CASS Forum: International Symposium on the Rule of l.aw was held in Beijing on October 19-20, 2023. The forum, which took “Modernization and the Rule of Law: Chinese Practices and International Experiences” as its theme, was sponsored by CASS Institute of Law and attended by more than 50 experts and scholars from Finland, Japan, Germany, Brazil, the United States, Poland, UK, Australia, Canada and other countries as well as from relevant domestic institutions in China. 

At the opening ceremony of the forum, presided over by Professor Xie Zengyi, deputy director of CASS Institute of Law, opening speeches were given by Mr. Zhang Wenxian, director of the Academic Committee of China Law Society, Mr. Jiang Bixin, vice president of China Law Society, Prof. Kimmo Nuotio from the Law Faculty of Helsinki University in Finland, and Professor Mo Jihong, director of CASS Institute of Law.

The forum was pided into six sessions, in which the participants gave presentations and carried out discussions on various issues around the topics of “the relationship between modernization and the rule of law”, “international comparison of modernization of the rule of law”, “modernization of the rule of law in the digital age”, “digital technology development and the response of the rule of law”, “labor and social security law in the context of modernization”, and “criminal law in the context of modernization”.

At the closing ceremony, presided over by Mr. Zhang Jingui, head of the Department of Research Coordination and International Cooperation of CASS Institute of Law, concluding remarks were made by Prof. Masanori Okada, director of Institute of Comparative Law of Waseda University in Japan, and Prof. Xie Zengyi, deputy director of CASS Institute of Law.
