The 16th Japan-China Seminar on Public Law held at Waseda University




The 16th Japan-China Seminar on Public Law, sponsored by Japan-China Public Law Society, was held at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan on November 3-4, 2023. The seminar, which took "Regulation of Cutting-edge Science and Technology and Protection of Personal Information" as its theme, was attended by more than 100 scholars from CASS Institute of Law, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, Sichuan University, China University of Political Science and Law, Southeast University, Dalian Maritime University Soochow University, and Zhejiang Gongshang University on the Chinese side and Waseda University, Tokyo University, Keio University, Kyoto University, Hitotsubashi University, Chuo University and Osaka University on the Japanese side.




Professor Mo Jihong, director of CASS Institute of Law and dean of the Law School of the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, attended the seminar and delivered a speech entitled "The Constitutional Protection of Digital Rights" at the opening ceremony. Associate Professor Wang Shuaiyi and Assistant Professor Huang Hai from CASS Institute of Law also attended the seminar.




At the seminar, which focused on two main topics: the development and regulation of cutting-edge science and technology and the personal information protection system, the participations carried out in-depth discussions on digital rights and personal information protection, scientific and technological progress and its legal control, as well as related legal issues and current situation in China and Japan. As the first offline seminar held by the Japan-China Public Law Society since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, this seminar was of positive significance for promoting academic exchanges and between China and Japan and achieved the expected results.
