A delegation of the China Ocean Affairs Administration visits CASS Institute of International Law
A delegation from the China Ocean Affairs Administration, headed by Ms. Tang Dongmei, deputy director of the Administration, visited CASS Institute of International Law and held a symposium with some researchers of the Institute on the impact of new international rules on China's domestic law on July 2, 2024.
At the symposium, presided over by Professor Liu Xiaomei, head of the Research Coordination and International Cooperation Department of the Institute, Professor Liu Nanlai, an honorary member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, introduced the negotiation process of China's participation in the Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea and the development of related domestic legislation after China accession to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. Professor Liu Hongyan from CASS Institute of Law and associate professors Wang Hanling, Zhang Wenguang, Luo Huanxin, He Tiantian and Ma Jinxing from CASS Institute of International Law gave presentations on the connotation of the system of the law of the sea, the construction of the deep-sea legislative system, the implementation of the BBNJ Agreement after its entry into force, the revision of the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Exploration and Development of Resources in Deep Seabed Areas, and the relationship between deep-sea legislation and other sea-related legislation, respectively.
Mr. Peng Lisheng, a section chief at the China Ocean Affairs Administration, commented on each of the presentations based on the current situation of domestic and foreign legislation and the implementation of the Law on Exploration and Development of Resources in Deep Seabed Areas. Afterward, members of the delegation held in-depth exchanges with the researchers of the Institute.
