The 21st International Law Forum of CASS held in Beijing


 

The 21st International Law Forum of CASS: International Symposium on Multilateralism and International Rule of Law was held in Beijing on November 3-4, 2024. The forum was jointly sponsored by the Institute of International Law and the Secretariat of National Top Think Tank of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and attended by more than 60 experts and scholars, including foreign experts and scholars from Greece, Brazil, Russia, Peru, Japan, and South Korea and Chinese experts and scholars from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, China University of Political Science and Law, Wuhan University, Jilin University, Nankai University, Sun Yat-sen University, Hong Kong University and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

 

 

At the Opening Ceremony of the forum, presided over by Professor Wang Ying, Deputy Director of Institute of International Law of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, opening speeches were given by Professor Mo Jihong, Member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Director of the Institute of Law, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Mr. Cássius Guimarães Chai, Professor of Universidade Federal Do Maranhão, Prosecutor in Supervisory Attorney’s General Office of Estado Do Maranhão in Brazil, Mr. Tang Dongmei, Deputy Director of China Ocean Mineral Resources R&D Association, and Professor Liao Fan, Deputy Director of the Bureau of International Cooperation, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

 

 

In the second part of the forum, presided over by Professor Liu Xiaomei, head of the Department of Research Coordination and International Cooperation of CASS Institute of International Law, keynote speeches were given by nine scholars, including Mr. Georgios Katrougkalos, Professor of Democritus University of Thrace and Former Foreign Minister of Greece, Professor Liu Jingdong, Head of the Department of International Economic Law of Institute of International Law, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Kong Qingjiang, Dean of School of International Law of China University of Political Science and Law, Professor He Zhipeng, Dean of School of Law of Jilin University, Professor César Landa from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru, and Former President of the Constitutional Court of Peru, Professor Li Shouping, Dean of School of Law of Beijing Institute of Technology, Mr. Park Insoo, Emeritus Professor of Law School of Yeungnam University, Professor Sun Shiyan from Institute of International Law, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Professor Sevalnev Viacheslav from the Institute of the Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation, on the topics of Human Rights and Democracy in Contemporary, Multipolar World, China - Europe Relations and the Development of International Economic Law, Obligations of Non-Discriminatory Treatment for Digital Products under DEPA and the Chinese Choice for the Market Mechanism on Digital Products, Foreign-Related Rule of Law in the Context of Chinese Modernization, Robots and Constitutional Duties in the Digital Age, International Law to Regulate information Security in Metaverse, The Imperative and Frameworks for Establishing Global Legal Governance in AI Technologies, Interpretation of Multilingual Treaties: with the English Text as Authoritative? and Anti-Corruption Legislation and Digitalization of Anti-Corruption Activities in the Russian Federation, respectively.

In the third part of the forum, which was divided into four panels, the participants gave presentations and carried out discussions on issues around the topics of International Rule of Law and Contemporary Chinese Insights of Rule of Law, Innovation of Rule of Law in Response to Reform of Global Governance System, Construction of Rule of Law for High-Quality Development and High-Level Opening-Up, and Integrity and Innovation in the Construction of Foreign-Related Rule of Law System.

 

 

At the closing ceremony, presided over by Sun Nanxiang, Associate Professor of the Institute of International Law, Deputy Director of the Department of Research Coordination and International Cooperation, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, closing remarks were given by Mr. Georgios Katrougkalos, Professor of Democritus University of Thrace and Former Foreign Minister of Greece, and Mr. Xu Chao, Associate Professor of National Top Think Tank, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
