To promote in-depth research on the theory and practice of democracy by young scholars from all over the world, the CASS Institute of Law organized the Second Forum of the Youth Research Group of the Global Think Tank for Democracy Studies in Beijing on November 15, 2024. The forum was held in both online and offline forms and attended by more than 30 experts and scholars from China, Brazil, Nepal, Cambodia, Kenya, Cameroon and other countries and regions.

At the opening ceremony, presided over by Professor Xie Zengyi, deputy director of CASS Institute of Law, opening remarks were made by Professor Mo Jihong, a member of CASS and the director of CASS Institute of Law, Mr. Leela Mani, Former Ambassador of Nepal to China, Mr. Evandro Menezes de Carvalho, a professor the Faculty of Law, Fundación Vargas, Brazil, and Professor Liao Fan, Deputy Director of the CASS Bureau of International Cooperation.

At the forum, which consisted of four panels, participants gave presentations and carried out discussions on various issues around the topics of “Democracy and Development”, “Democracy and the Rule of Law”, “Diversity of Democracy in Practice”, and “Democracy and Global Governance”.

At the closing ceremony, presided over by Mr. Zhang Jingui, head of the Department of Research Coordination and International Cooperation of CASS Institute of Law, closing remarks were given by Professor Xie Zengyi and Dr. Dennis Munene Mwaniki, Executive Director of the China Africa Research Center, African Policy Research Institute, Kenya.
