The first session of the lecture series Shatan Youth Forum on "the Rule of Law and Chinese-Style Modernization", sponsored by CASS Institute of Law and CASS Institute of International Law, was held in Beijing on March 11, 2025. At this forum session, Dr. Jia Yuan, an editor of the journal Global Law Review, gave a lecture titled "Criminal Law Regulation of the Utilization of Biotechnology". The lecture was presided over by Mr. Zhang Jingui, head of the Research Coordination and International Cooperation Department of CASS Institute of Law, and attended by Professor Xie Zengyi, deputy director of CASS Institute of Law, and more than 30 young researchers from two research institutes. After the lecture, participants carried out discussions on such issues as the impact of gene editing on the realization of citizens' right to health rights, the legitimacy of criminal punishment for the research on and development and utilization of emerging technologies, and the necessity of establishing related new crimes.
