The seminar on the Revision of the Law on the Exploration and Development of Resources in Deep Seabed Areas and the Establishment of Supporting Systems held in Beijing


 
 
The seminar on the proposed research project on the Revision of the Law on the Exploration and Development of Resources in Deep Seabed Areas and the Establishment of Supporting Systems was held at CASS Institute of International Law in Beijing on July 30, 2025. The seminar was sponsored by CASS Institute of International Law, organized by CASS Center for the Law of Sea Studies, and attended by experts and scholars from China Ocean Affairs Administration, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing Normal University, Nankai University, Zhejiang University, and Ningbo University. At the seminar, presided over by Professor Liu Xiaomei, head of the Research Coordination and International Cooperation Department of CASS Institute of International Law, participants carried out in-depth discussions on practical and theoretical issues relating to the revision of the Law on the Exploration and Development of Resources in Deep Seabed Areas, the Agreement on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity Beyond Areas of National Jurisdiction under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and its impact on domestic laws, and supporting systems and mechanisms for deep-sea resource exploration and development.
