Xu Chi, Rediscovering the Tokyo Trials: An International Rule of Law in Search of Peace and Justice, Beijing: Contemporary China Publishing House, December 2023

The year 2023 is the 75th anniversary of the Tokyo Trials, which played a fundamental role in stabilizing the order in East Asia and achieving lasting peace and constitutes the basic prerequisite for Japan's return to the international community. Together with the Nuremberg Trials, they were also the "meta-events" of international criminal rule of law and the "birth certificates" of international criminal law.

This book, based on the analysis of the trend and law of the transformation of international criminal rule of law since the end of the 19th century, reveals the motive force and reasons for the establishment of the Tokyo Trial after World War II, reviews the arguments between the prosecution and the defense over the legal basis, jurisdiction, logic of prosecution, application of conspiracy, trial of crimes and other core issues in the trials, and reexplores and evaluates the value and significance of the Tokyo Trials.
