The 10th CASS Forum: International Symposium on Rule of Law Successfully Held

The 10th CASS Forum: International Symposium on Rule of Law, sponsored by CASS Law Institute, was held in a combined online and offline form on November 11-12, 2021. The forum, which took "Legal Regulation of Digital Economy" as its theme, was attended by more than 40 Chinese and foreign scholars.

 

Professor Mo Jihong, Director of CASS Institute of Law, expressed his gratitude to all domestic and foreign experts and scholars for their continued support to the annual CASS Forum sponsored by CASS Institute of Law. He pointed out that the rapid development of the digital economy has brought huge challenges to traditional legal regulations and encouraged all scholars participating in the forum to speak freely, actively participate in the discussions, and contribute the wisdom of legal professionals to meet this challenge.

 

Professor Ulla Liukkunen, Director of the Finnish Centre of Chinese Law and Chinese Legal Culture, University of Helsinki in Finland, expressed her gratitude to CASS Law Institute for organizing the Forum. She pointed out that the theme of this forum was a frontier issue of common concern to both practical and theoretical circles and she hoped that scholars from all over the world can exchange experiences and make common progress through discussions from different perspectives.

 

Professor Masanori Okada, director of the Institute of Comparative Law at Waseda University in Japan, said that the rapid development of the digital economy may bring the risk of materialization of personality on the one hand, but also create convenience for communication between people on the other hand. This forum provided a very good opportunity for scholars from various countries to share experience, gather wisdom, and discuss legal issues relating to digital economy.

 

Professor Simon Deakin from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom said that the development of the digital economy has brought many challenges to the legal system. In the future legal development, we should actively utilize new technologies, but should not hand over the law completely to artificial intelligence. He thanked CASS Law Institute for hosting this forum, and looked forward to having more opportunities to have in-depth exchanges with experts and scholars in the future.

 

Professor Chen Guoping, Secretary of the Joint Party Committee of CASS Institute of Law and CASS Institute of International Law, pointed out that this forum had enabled the participants to have a better understanding of the relevant legal systems of other countries and realize the important role played by law in the development of digital economy. He thanked the participating scholars for their strong support to the Forum, and looked forward to further discussion on the theme of legal regulation of digital economy in the future.
