The Civil Code of the People’s Republic of China formally came into force on January 1, 2021. As the first law in China adopted in the name of code, it is also known as an encyclopedia of social life in China. It contains a huge number of new rules on various aspects of the daily life of Chinese citizens, including marriage, property, residence, inheritance, online activities, even how to name their new born babies. Recently, Professor Sun Xianzhong, a research fellow at CASS Law Institute, a member of CASS Academic Committee and a member of the Constitution and Law Committee of the National People’s Congress who had participated the whole process of the formulation and adoption of the Chinese Civil Code, accepted a special interview by China News Service program “China Focus: Face to Face”, in which he gave authoritative interpretations of a series of new rules provided for in the Chinese Civil Code and their significances.
